Perhaps a trivial question but does anyone know how to stop the Gadgets in the Vista Sidebar from changing position everytime I boot up the computer? I have arranged them how I like them with the ones I want to see all the time at the top of the first page and the less used gadgets towards the end of the second page. I would like to have a way of fixing the positions.

Thanks

Perhaps you are seeing a bug or a by design (or lack of it) type of fault, there are a few of these in Vista.

C:\Users\usernamexxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar has a file called Settings.ini, I wonder whether that has anything to do with the problem? It also has a folder called Gadgets which is empty, why is that?

Regrettably this is not going to work as it involves replacing the 64 bit sidebar with the 32 bit version and that is what I am already using. I dont understand German so dont know if this resolved the issue for Paulchen. Thanks anyway.

Yes, Paulchen's problem was fixed...

what he had done was to set under Properties, the sidebar to fixed, then unchecking that option, close the sidebar and restart it through the START menu... (post#7)...

#8 was the solution for E-Mailinator...

That's odd. I dont have the option to fix the sidebar. The only options I have are:
Start Sidebar when Windows starts
Sidebar is always on top of other windows
Display Sidebar on this side of screen: Left / Right
Display Sidebar on monitor: 1 / 2
View list of running gadgets
Restore gadgets installed with Windows (greyed out)

Sorry, I think that it was a bit unclear, meant was that you'd have to do it per gadget...

Did anyone get anywhere with this? It's driving me mad also - I only have 4 gadgets on my Windows sidebar, but every now and then when I reboot they have all moved. Surely it's something so simple to leave them where they last were so I don't understand why they keep moving. I think it happens when Windows does an automatic update - but it seems to do that nearly every day and the gadgets probably move weekly. I'm on the verge of removing them.... and downgrading to XP!!

Cheers

Sorry I havent got back on this. I cant see an option on any of the individual gadgets to fix the position. Have I misunderstood?

Thanks
