That is the opening salvo for Vista these days. The story is that I installed Corel Draw8, not the current version. As with other problems, Vista's offer to try to find a solution on the web results in the window disappearing.

My guess is that a file in the Corel program somehow overwrote a Vista file. Any knowledge of this issue.

As in another Corel issue, the details box names NTDLL32.dll as the culprit. Thoughts? Thanks.

If any file has been overwritten maybe it can be repaired by running SFC /Scannow from an Elevated Command Prompt in Vista?

NtDll32 is not a Windows file, is it a Coral file?

Have you looked at Compatibility Mode of the Coral .exe, or running it As An Administrator, to see if you have success?

There is also this application that you could look at, it is more for Developers but has been released to the public.

Compatibility doesn't work. I don't know sfc. Is what? I suspect you are right about a Corel file, and I assume it was overwritten.

The Realtek issues distracted m e from this (Funny that I just read on a ZDnet blog that there are similar Vista/Nvdia issues in video) but I think I will try to reinstall Coral Office Pro (I use both MS and Corel Office Pro products) to see if that cures it.

Unfortunately one of the signs is Windows warning that a graphics file being opened from the desktop or a folder stored temporarily on the desktop cannot be found, which feels more like a system than a Corel issue. This is why I want a Vista CD and why I find your previous leads to clean install options extremely valuable. Thanks again.

But, Wait: I have a full copy of Windows 2k without a home, and it occurs to me that I can either easily a) do a vista upgrade (150 bucks if I act today or tomorrow) or b) do an X P pro upgrade (don't know how much) and just let the benighted home premium go. What would you do?

You could try the System File Checker program is what I meant by SFC /Scannow.

Windows 2000, Requires clean install of Vista as it is not an upgrade possibility, but is an upgrade qualifying product, see the next article.

My own personal choice would be stick with Vista if you can. XP Pro is probably still a better operating system than Vista Home Premium, but not as good as Vista Ultimate, this is just my personal opinion. Vista is about to go SP1, it has already been released to some lucky people (or unlucky, depending on your philosophy), so you should see it released to the public within a month or so.

Another solution you could consider, is dual booting, or running a Virtual Machine (of 2000 or XP) from Vista.
