I have a domain with 10 PC’s, 9 of which are XP and 1 is Vista Business. A Small Business Server (SBS 2003) had to be rebuilt which re-created the domain. All PC's had to rejoin the domain and all now work fine except for the Vista PC which is showing the domain connection as 'domainname.local 2' instead of 'domainname.local'. I have dropped the Vista PC from the domain by adding it to a workgroup, renamed the PC, added it back to the 'domainname.local' domain and it worked fine for a few days until there was an issue with the network cabling and the PC lost the domain connection. Once the cabling issue was resolved the PC is now again showing the domain as 'domainname.local 2'. Can anyone please advise to save me from having to totally rebuild this Vista PC ? Many thanks.

Just rename it. Go to the Network and Sharing Center, click the 'Customize' link and modify the name field, Next, OK.

The naming doesn't matter, it just means that it's found a second connection with the name domainname.local and is using that, the initial domain connection is still there but hidden. If you go to the Network and Sharing Center and click on Manage Network Connections you will see all of the connections in there, just delete the original connection (which should be disconnected).

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

Thanks very much, I can't believe it was that simple to fix, just renaming it worked. Thanks again both of you.
