I have a user running the latest version of Home Vista... I do not have the same issues as her as I run 64 bit Ultimate. She can not send new mail messages through OWA. Her Security Settings allow our Domain to be known as Trusted...what else...?

but from this blurb, I suspect Microsoft started their “Microsoft Secure Windows Initiative” program after your version of vista. Her version of vista probably doesn’t allow activex controls to be run under this new program.

Several design changes are introduced in Windows Vista that are based on the Microsoft Secure Windows Initiative program. The version of Internet Explorer that is bundled with Windows Vista helps protect users from dangerous Web sites. Additionally, this version of Internet Explorer runs with limited user rights even if the user is logged on as a member of the local administrators group. The new editor that is introduced in this version of Internet Explorer complements this design change.

You receive an error message when you try to perform any editing tasks, or you must click to enable the compose frame in Outlook Web Access

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Vista, you cannot perform any editing tasks that you typically expect to perform. For example, you cannot perform the following tasks:
• Compose a new e-mail message
• Reply to an e-mail message
• Create a new contact, task, note, journal entry, or appointment
• Change any configuration in the Outlook Web Access options folder
Additionally, you may receive an error message when you try to perform these tasks.
CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Windows Vista no longer includes support for the ActiveX control that is used for HTML editing in Outlook Web Access.

RESOLUTION

This Microsoft Exchange Server hotfix resolves the three issues that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. This hotfix enables a new editor for Internet Explorer. The new editor uses an Internet Explorer "iframe" instead of an ActiveX control. After you apply hotfix 911829, you are not required to first click in the compose frame in Outlook Web Access before you edit text.

Important For this resolution to work, you must apply the hotfix to both the front-end server and to the back-end server.

I am trying to find out if the hot fix has been applied to the Exchange Servers I have no control over.

In parallel I am asking all of you. Is there a known work around my user can do? I can't seem to find a client side resolution.

Thanks

I'm not sure what this has to do with the edition of Vista. The DHTMLEdit control was withdrawn from Vista and does not work under Vista. A new version was released that does run under Vista but cannot be scripted from within IE due to security potentials - it only works within programs.

Are you sure your existing OWA version works for you but not her? The old DHTMLEdit (used by old OWA) should not work on any edition of Vista whether you are admin or not, UAC on or off. I'm not saying it doesn't work for you, just that it isn't supposed to.

just to let you know our work-around

There are to options to connect in OWA, Premium and Basic

If you get this error use Basic mode and you can utilize OWA

Tom

and to answer your question..yes we absolutely are using the same OWA https connections....

problem resides on her personal machine settings... found the work around though...

Tom

Yes... switching to "Basic" mode in OWA solved problems for quite a few of my users.

Just my 2¢
