Anyone using Vista & IPX protocol?
How?

I don't think Vista officially has the IPX protocol as part of the install. There is a bodge (use it at your own risk - but IMHO you would be better staying with XP for now until you upgrade to a newer version of NetWare.

I have a mix of MS-DOS, Win95, Win98 and WinXP machines on a Netware 4.2 network.

I would prefer to adapt Vista to the network, than the network to Vista

keep in mind that you're trying to make a Desktop system that was just released (2007) connect to a NOS that was released almost 10 years ago. It seems silly that you're putting in brand new Workstation OS's but you're not moving your NOS to a current version.
