I've been working on something that accesses Windows Update through the API. I don't have access to Windows Vista or 7 in a close enough way to see for myself, so I'm asking here. Does it operate similar enough to Windows XP so I could expect it to work with the API that works on XP? I do know I need to look for *.MSU files with regards to Vista and 7, but are there any other concerns that need addressed?

Vista does away with using Internet Explorer to access Windows Update, instead utilizing a new application to handle the chore of keeping your system patched and up-to-date. The result is quicker response and a more tightly streamlined process. The update-tracking mechanism, for instance, is much quicker to display information about your installation. And now key components, such as the Windows Defender antispyware module, get their updates through this central point. Like other housekeeping features, a better Windows Update isn’t a gee-whiz upgrade, but it should make it easier–and more pleasant–to keep your PC secure".

Thanks for your response. However, it really doesn't address my question. To put what I asked in a simpler way: "I'm working on a program that accesses the Windows Update API. This program works on Windows XP. I would like to know if it would work on Windows Vista and Windows Seven."

I did get a quick look at it on Windows 7 once and I think there shouldn't be any problems (outside of looking for *.MSU as well as *.EXE), but wanted to be sure.
