Hi all,

In our company we use a windows 2003 server. Our database is ms access 2003. The back end of the db is situated in a directory on the primary HD.
All our workstations use windows professional.
I use a vista (ultimate) laptop. It appears that when I enter data from my vista laptop at times it corrupts the backend of the db. None of the other workstations do this.
Is vista a problem here in this situation?

Many thanks Ken

I doubt it is Vista itself but my experience with it is very limited.

I am betting it has something related to the network. And since it is Vista I am betting the network driver you are using might be a little buggy because it is new. First try finding an updated driver.

If that does not help, if practical swap the vista and an XP system at the locations and see if it is location or machine related. If location, you have a physical network problem (bad port on a switch, bad cable pull, bad patch cable or bad segment).

If it still persists you could get adventerous and find a NIC on Vista's hardware compatibility list and see if you still have problems.

When I tried a google search, there did seem to be a problem using Vista to share the database but I understood your post to mean that the database is on a Win2k3 server.

Hi Ken,

What version of MS Access are you running on your Vista Laptop.

Regardless of the format of the Network Access db, your local PC opens the Database with whatever copy of Access is installed locally.

Might you be running Access 2007 and the others running MS Access 2002/2003?

Many thanks to lameid,and Hapooy,

Firstly my previous laptop had XP and experienced no problems at all.

This problem has only occured after I set up my vista laptop to the network.By trade I am Avionics engineer plus I have a CNE rating. So I have checked for updated network drivers etc.

Yes I have installed a win2k3 server plus service packs etc.

All the computer use Ms Access 2002 inc my vista laptop.
Very puzzling this problem. All the network cables are cat6. I have a fast network switch box etc. The server is a 2.8 ghz Dual, with 5gb of ram, with barracuda 300gb HDs etc.

But I will try to see if there are any more updates for vista.

Many thanks for your help

Ken
