Dear all,

Hereunder you'll find my problem as descriptive as possible.

Software : Microsoft Visio 2003

Job : Constructing metric floor plans

Problem : Cannot join very short shapes, consisting of walls, to larger ones perpendicular to each other, wide by their ends.

Assume :

1. Shape 1 = External wall 20cm wide and 10cm long
2. Shape 2 = External wall 20cm wide and 2m long
3. Shape 3 = External wall 20cm wide and 1m long

Steps :

1. Tried to join shape 3 perpendicular to shape 2 on one side of it (say on the right hand side). I.e. one end of shape 3 joined to one end of shape 2. Both shapes joined perpendicular to each other.

2. On the left hand side of shape 2, exactly opposite to shape 3, I want to join one end of shape 1 perpendicular to shape 2, end to end (similar to shape 3 but on opposite side).

Unfortunately, I couldn’t perform step 2. What happened is that when I tried to join shape 1 (the very short shape of 10cm) perpendicular to shape 2, shape 1 is being rotated and vanishes from the diagram.

Can you please help me find a solution for my problem, i.e. joining perpendicularly at 90 degrees shape 1 to shape 2 by one of this ends.

Thanks in advance
David

A standard wall shape is a modified line and it's reference point is (by default) it's centreline. So a 10cm section of wall joined perpendicular to a 20cm thick wall will snap to the reference (centreline) of the long wall and thus apparently vanish. To make this more obvious set the View menu option to show connection points.
The easy solution is to make the short wall section 20cm long - it will then show 10cm out of the longer wall!
