Visio link to excel file

I am trying to link Visio to an excel document. I know there is there a way to have all the custom properties of a shape listed in an excel doc. My problem is, how do I have one large file that holds all the information for EVERY shape. But only assign the custom properties based on a name match or something?

So if the shape name is computer1 then in the excel doc it would list:

computer1,prop1,prop2,prop3
computer2,prop1,prop2,prop3

But the shape would only take on the properties of itself.
