Visio Architect Portable Data Types?

I am using Visio Architect (10.0 - XP). I had a model which worked fine until recently and now any data fields added have different portable data types (e.g., SBCS VarChar(10) vs. VarChar(10)) which is causing it to fail the model check.

Anybody know what I have doen wrong?
