We just had this come up the other day. A few users are indicating that when the XP PC with Visio 2003, the File Menu options have changed when opening a VSD file from a Web page.

From what I can see the "Save" option has been replaced with "Update" and when a change is made to the file and Update is selected, the file does not update.

The user also indicate that they changed the VSD file format (advance setting) to NOT "Browse in Same Window".

Did the feature of "saving" exist a few months ago? Did a recent secruity patch change how Visio opens from a Web page?

I had a older XP PC ( last security updates where from Jult 2007)and installed Visio 2003 SP1. I then added the HTA Web page with all the VSD file links. Well I saw the same "Update" option and no "Save" option in the file menu.

So I'm just curious, have my users been imaging the "save" option in the past?

Thanks

Kim

Not sure as to the why and all, but here's my guess on it:

Visio 2003 automatically recognizes the source of the file being on a remote server - through http/website. So, it changes the option from Save to Update, sort of similar to "publishing" a web page. Then it doesn't actually Update, b/c the local user does not have write permissions on the remote server/location, or else there is some other network issue blocking the user's access to write to files at the location.

I understand your thought, but the test.vsd file ins located on my local hard drive at C:\test\test.vsd, so I do have full access and rights to the file. So are there any options or just live with it?

Thanks
