VirusScan V5.21 SLOWS down...

Can anyone help?
Ive just installed version 5.21, replacing an older version.
Im using the MS O/S Win98.
Has anyone experienced a substantial slow down in accessing email thru MSOutlook and web browsing (especially logging into any websites and searches)? What can be done to alleviate this issue? I did not experience this problem with
McAfee Office 2000.

Welcome to the club. Apparently there is a serious performance problem in engine 4.1.50 which came with dat 4.0.4163 and McAfee will not acknowledge it. Everyone I know that downloaded and installed SuperDat 4163 this past week has had their computer rendered almost inoperable due to a performance problem. Somebody is stealing 90% of the available cycles and it is Vscan. If you turn off vscan the problem goes away. I've seen several suggestions about tailoring which files to scan and turning off logging etc. but it's really McAfee's job to fix this problem. There are many posts on alt.com.anti-virus about the problem but no real solution at this time. John Bowen
 
Thanks for the update. Ive even switched over to NAV, and I experienced the same issues.
 

I experienced major slow-downs, problems with downloads, incomplete scanning and mouse problems. I deleted McAfee and downloaded Norton and my computer is working great. I have win98SE. On their site they acknowledge a problem with win2000 but I have the problem with win98SE.
