Hi,
I am currently experiencing a problem on 2 of our servers in which the Arcserve backup will fail if VirusScan 8 is running as well. The backups reach about 20% and then do not go any further. The backup cannot be stopped nor can the Mcshield service. The server needs a cold reboot to stop the job. A warm reboot causes the server to hang.
Here are the specs and things I have already done:
Server 1 - Windows 2003 server running KVS Enterprise vault(email archive) and Epo 3.6. Arcserve 11.1 build 3110 with open files agent. All latest Arcserve patches are added.
VirusScan 8.0 patch 11 (before patch 11 the server crashed after about 3 hours)
Scriptscan is disabled
Buffer overflow is disabled
NaiTDI driver is disabled
All Arcserve processes are added to low risk processes list with scanning for these processes disabled.
All CA folders are excluded from scan
The backup seemed to stick on the c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\network associates folder or a file in that folder. I excluded this from the backup and the backup now sticks on a file in the CA BAOF folder which is excluded from scanning (This may be a red herring though)
If you disable McShield service the backup runs fine.
Server 2 is a Windows 2000 server with SP4 and runs SQL server 2000. The setup is the same as server1 with Arcserve and the Virusscan settings. The backup runs OK with VirusScan running for around 4 days but will then fail and require a reboot suggesting some sort of memory leak.
I have obtained a hotfix from Mcafee making the Virusscan version 11a I believe but this has not fixed the problem. I have 3 other servers running Arcserve and Virusscan at the same time with no exclusions and nothing disabled and all works fine. Mcafee have yet to answer this problem.
All help is greatly appreciated
