Windows is set to AUTORUN an application etc. upon insertion of a CD or USB thumbdrive...

the culprit is a script called "autorun.inf", which can then load and execute another program...

if you turn off the autohandler for USB or CD's, then you should have no problem... Plus an active scanning AntiViral Program is a must...

Thanks a bunch BBB :)
I tried to find how to do it using the Help file, but it didn't bring anything with the word "autohandler", and "autorun" only showed me how to customize the Start Menu.
Do you mind telling how to turn off the autohandler for USB or CD's?
I'll appreciate it.

Download TweakUI from Microsoft and run it...

Then expand the My Computer branch, then the AutoPlay branch, and then select Drives. And turn off the checkbox next to each drive letter for which you want AutoPlay disabled.

or

Run REGEDIT from the RUN BOX (or CLI). Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom
Double-click the Autorun value, and type 0 for its value. (Create it, if it's not there, by selecting Edit -> New -> DWORD Value, and typing Autorun for the name.)

Note: Windows will no longer notice when you insert a new CD, meaning the Icon will not change in Explorer, by hitting F5 (refresh) you can do this manually.
