Hi all,

I was installing Mcafee AV version 8.0i on a XP machine SP1 and when the program was installing the services i.e Framework service it rebooted and now everytime it boots up after the Windows logon screen it reboots the PC again. I have magaed to get around this by using MSconfig and choosing not to load the services but of course now there is no AV on the PC.

I have also checked the registry and the AV keys have not been installed correctly and under Add Remove programs AV is not there to uninstall. Also it will not install over the top as it reboots again at the services install.

Is there a manual way to unistall or is there a force uninstall option??

ANy help would be great thanks!

yes as it appears that the install is corrupt and all the files were not installed

This is a listing of the things that need to be removed if you are going to manually remove VirusScan:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Network Associates

C:\Program Files\Network Associates

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Network Associates

Also remove these registry entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\McAfeeFramework

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\McShield

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\McTaskManager

If it won't let you remove some of the folders make sure all of the processes related to VirusScan are killed:

Frameworkservice.exe
Mcshield.exe
naPrdMgr.exe
shstat.exe
TBMon.exe
UpdaterUI.exe
VsTskMgr.exe

That should take care of it. Just reboot so the services are removed and you're done.
