Howdy,

I posted this question on the Virus/Spyware forum and got no answer, so I figured maybe I would get some response (+/-) here...

I was wondering if there is a live CD distrobution that can be used to remove malicious applications from a machine running windows normally. It would be wonderful to be able to pop in the disk, boot, and clean the machine off from within linux. It seems to me, that this could reduce some of the difficulty in removing said wares.

I am VERY new to linux OS, so if this post is outrageous please tell me, but have mercy...[dazed]

No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try. - Yoda

Most any distro's installation CD will absolutely be able to overwrite/eradicate/remove the W32.Microsoft@Windows Virus/Malware/Cootie ;-)

Seems like the best solution to getting rid of the evil stuff is to run your spybot+adaware+whateverotherscanners (cwshredder is a good one) after turning off system restore (that's a major key in removing malware).

Seriously, haven't heard of anything like this. Would be cool to write a scanner using something like Spybot's signature files to look for critters on a Windows partition.

I heard of Knoppix-live-CDs to do so.

Only never kernels (2.6.x) are told to handle write-access to ntfs-partitions well. But afaik it isn't called production-stable from their developers.
