Just found out I'm infected with the Win32 Pate.B virus. Using XP Home edition. I've been reading that the only way to fully remove this virus is to remove it from the registry. Apparently this is the registry address that needs to be removed: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\PINF
Having not poked around in the registry before, I was hoping to get some advice on how to do this. Thanks for the help, as always.

Really not that difficult, just be careful and make sure you have the correct key highlighted when deleting.

start, run, regedit.

Then browse like your in explorer to the relevent key. Highlight key and the full address will appear in the bottom line. double check (triple check if it makes you happier to continue) then rh click and delete. Close regedit. Job done.

Cut and paste the below into notepad and name the file PateB.reg

;************** start of cut and past area
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\PINF]
;************* end cut and paste area

Double click the file to make the registry edit.

MasterofNone,

Anytime I see someone uncomfortable running Regedit I get uncomfortable with them. My concern was that they could delete the parent key and this would not be good for them.

perfect...that's what I needed. Thanks for your help and time.
