I am having extremely odd issues with Windows. Use Avast, thought I had a firewall on the router (which appears not to be running..oddly and unfortunately) and windows firewall, a few other precautions. Do very little risky surfing, but did download DriveClone in a moment of desperation.
At any rate, here is the problem. If anyone from the virus community would kindly take a quick look, I would like to know if you think this is not a case of windows failure but of an attack:

thank you.

(As I noted at the bottom, the Internet has failed from outside the building, so if this was intended to be a zombie attack, it's not working.)

Report that my suspicions were correct and that another scan with Malwarebytes revealed quite a bit. These removed, the system is nearly back to normal. (Setting a restore point is proving to be challenging.) The failure of the server port probably saved me from a greater disaster. I reckon that it happened either just after the malware had installed or during the installation. Thanks to Gumbawahoo (I think...you know who you are ) for the information on malware removers in another thread. I have just installed Emisoft and am running it. Never led me wrong.

Glad to hear it's starting to get sorted out. But do consider what I mentioned in your Windows thread, regarding how much time this is taking vs how much time a flat reinstall will/would take. Now it sounds like you're starting to clear up, but not totally there yet. But if you enjoy continually scanning, then have at it. [wink]

I did from the beginning. As I use a large number of programs including Paradox, MS Office Pro, Cardscan, Clipmate and others for my business, it would take considerably longer. The real work only took about 7 hours... Getting the programs downloaded (in a couple of cases), installed, set up (such as the particular .dot configuration for word, getting Paradox to drop the habit or erasing settings by deleting about four installed files and removing them from the registry, etc) a clean install usually takes me up to twelve hours. Even then, I keep having to tweak and search afterwards. Good thought though. Thanks.
