For my sins I am using Windows ME on my home computer.

I recently had a VXD error problem and had to restore my PC settings to a date several months ago. All went OK and PC works OK, however, during boot up I get an what looks like a DOS window with the message

Unable to locate Virus database.

Consequently when PC starts the auto protect is no longer working.

I have not got a set of rescue disks.

My PC is 3 years old and I have always updated over web so I am reluctant to reinstall as it will take forever to update virus list, I only have a 56K modem.

I hope some one can come up with a better solution.

Thank you in advance.

Ian

You never said what version of AV you are using. So, Try putting the CD back in and run setup to see if it will give you a repair option. If that dosen't work try the same in control panel - add/remove programs. Another option would be to back up the virus def folder and reload. Then copy the viurs def folder back.
