I was wondering how Norton Anti-Virus (NAV) or any other A/V software checks embedded files.
Specifically, I run the CAD package Solid Edge (SE). In order to increase performance, I do not scan the files with the extensions used by SE and am safe in doing so because SE files do not have any macros or other code that could be converted maliciously (as far as my knowledge goes). But, we can embed Word and Excel files into the SE files and those can contain malicious macros.
If I don't scan SE files, can I be certain the embedded files are clean? Does NAV even scan embedded files?
Thanks,
