I am incharge of the network in the company I work for. Just recently we have received the virus 'Bugbear' on the server, as you probaly know it screws up the printer to print out garbage. I have cleared it from the server with the tool I down loaded from the net, but the printers are still scatty and printing out garbage. How can I stop them doing this? The printers involved are: HP Laserjet 4500, HP Laserjet 4 & 4L, and the HP Laserjet 5 & 5L. I would be eternally greatful if someone could answer this as soon as possible as I am going balder by the minute.

Unfortunately, the reason Bugbear prints garbage on network printers is because it is spreading itself to all the computers with shares open on your network and has a "bug" in it that makes it think networked printers are PCs.

It is very likely that several, and possibly all the PC's on your network are infected.

The only way I know of to correct this is to diconnect all PC's from the network. You could do this by powering off all your hubs/switches. Clean the server and ALL the PC's of the virus, update AV software, and then restart your network.

You can also do this in an incremental fashion if your network is fairly large. Disconnect everyone, clean the server, and then reconnect PC's to the server as you certify they are clean.

Just remember if one infected computer is reconnected to the network you may be starting all over again.
