Gents;

I've just upgraded from an Apache 2.0.50 scheme to the newest 2.2.8 and it appears the configs are arranged quite differently. While I have most of the items changed I am having difficulty (re)defining my virual hosts. Can someone please advise the scheme that this newest version uses versus the available+enabled scheme of the prior?

And where does one find/place those files?

Thanks -Bob

The configurations are basically the same. Different distros might seperate specific portions into seperate .conf files that would be included into the main httpd.conf. But this is only an organizational philosophy and doesn't realy change anything........ Wait, are you referring to some Window based management interface instead of the actual .conf files?

Nope! No windoze!

But, while the prior version 8.04.1 relied on discreet virtual site files, the newest, 8.10, appends them to the end of the apache2.conf file. It was easier before. I wish they would keep things the same.

Thanks - Bob

You can still use your original vhost config file. There should be an "Include" directive in httpd.conf. It will point to a directory with all the other config files that apache uses. For example, "Include conf.d/*.conf". When apache goes to that directory, it reads all the *.conf files as though they were included in httpd.conf. All you have to do is put your vhosts.conf file in that directory or add the path and file name to an Include directive.

Thank you - took a while but I did get that figured out (why did it have to change "on the surface - anyway).

Now my issue is this: It is not parsing php files. From a browser I am getting "open with or save". I do have a load of the php5 module and the application/x-httpd-php directives in the apache2.conf file.

Ideas? Thanks

Do you mind if I ask which linux distro you are running? It could be that you a a version of apache that was configured for another distro. For example RedHat sets up there files a little different from ubuntu. I think the specific problem with php not working is because mod_perl may not be installed or the config file isn't configured properly for it. The reason I was wondering if you had the right version for your distro is because there coule be a long string of these issues popping up. They are usually not the end of the world type of problems but they could easily be done away with all together.

Of course. It is a new release of Ubuntu Server edition 8.10

It is supposed to be a load and go for a LAMP system. At least it was when I installed 8.04 earlier this year.

This has NOT been fun. Thanks
