I was wondering if anyone out there ever had to make a virtual 360 degree tour before? ( Like a real estate home virtual tour) If so, what is the best software to use for it, and any other info that you can give on the subject would be very helpful.
I would think (as scary as it may sound) PowerPoint could do this with some image or digital video uploaded to the presentation. then simply include that in the site with mouseover events to trigger the movement through the presentation.
otherwise flash was mainly intended for things of this nature.
although I have not done this that would be where I would start out. _________________________________________________________

A buddy had this done once. He said they used a special 360 degree spherical-axis camera. So you'll need: a) the special camera; b) the software to process and save the data from the camera; c) the special plugin (or a download link) to distribute to your users. I have no idea what company or companies offer this hardware and software, it's probably expensive. Might be cheaper to look in your local business directory and find somebody who does this.
If you want to do this you have two options...flash or I-Pix...flash would be the cheaper way to go but you have to stitch the pictures together and then insert them in flash and write some action script to get them to move with the mouse pointer... Ipix can be found here
no need for special lenses or anything expensive like camera rotators etc and it works, you can do panoramas or 3d cubic views. Test driven a lot of others.
this is the best I tried,
Chris.
