I need to investigate a type of screensaver/ virtual pet for a client and wasnt sute how to go about it.

It would be some kind of creature/ character that moved around your desk top, the key is that other applicaton must still run.

I could 'come to life' during inactivity and go to 'sleep' when using the computer, but would prefer it not to be as rigid as this.

Perhapsd you could input variable to decide how active it was?

The important thing is that it doesnt fill your screen in the way a trad screen saver does.

Now I know this isnt the most original idea, but I just need an idea of how to do it.

Is VB best for this? Director? Any ideas? Caspar Kennerdale

If you want to to walk about your screen Director isn't a good choice, though you could play with custom window shapes to do it (ugly, poor implementation).

VB would be better but still rather tricky, custom window shapes in VB are not much better hence your going to want to blit your image directly to the screen buffer. I would guess your going to need to do some Win32 work for that or DX (I woould try for a win32 function to blit to the screen buffer before you start on DX).

can't be much more help than that, never done it.
