Hi,

I am trying to setup a small virtual network using Virtual PC 2007. The network consists of one virtual machine running Small Business Server 2003 and two clients running Windows XP.

No matter what network settings I use in Virtual PC I cannot get the clients to see the server. The server has two network connections, one is the physical connection on my real PC (which runs Vista) and one is configured either to local or shared networking.

I’ve tried configuring clients as local, shared and the physical network controller, in none of these modes could I get them to see the server (when you try and connect to the domain it simply tells you it can’t find the domain server).

Can anyone tell me the right settings to use? I’d be grateful for any help or advice.

Thanks

Karl

I haven't as of yet setup a client/server environment in VM2007, but used the 2004 version. You should just need to set it as local for both, and then try to ping the server from your XP VM. If that works, then there will be a configuration issue on the server side. If not, then you could make sure that there is not a firewall blocking a ping. That's usually where I start is to make sure there is "physical" connectivity. You may even have to statically assign IP addresses to each VM.
