Hello,

I have some questinos about whether or not my thoughts are possible.

I have a DSL modem, connected to a linksys router. The router has an option to update a domain name via dyndns.org which is set up and working. You can set up multiple domain there so that:

One.mydomain.com and two.mydomain.com both go to my ip.

1) I have two linux servers withing my local lan. Will it be a problem with virtuals hosts set up on one of the server to redirect two.mydomain.com to the other server located on the internal lan?

2) If I set up a different page to redirect to one.mydomain.com will it still be detected directly by the virtual host?

I'm not positive, but I think if you redirect in apache to another server on your internal network, the page will not be available to anyone outside of your network. I'm assuming that you have only one external IP address and you have your router set port forward 80 to the server hosting 'one.mydomain.com'. If you can make this work, I'd be interested myself.

I am sure that you can create a web page and use frames to redirect to the second sever by using it's local domain name for the source.

How about mounting the other server's share in the web directory of server one (e.g. as /web/server2/ ) and then setting the source directory for the virtual hosting entry to /web/server2/website/ ? Use /web/website/ for server one sites, and /web/server2/website/ for server two sites. Actually results in all requests going to one server, but on DSL if your volume is low, shouldn't be too big a load.

I don't know if it would work, just taking a SWAG at it.

Howard
