virtual hosting on win xp what the.....????

I am having a hard time figureing out how to set up a simple 2 site virtual host under xp pro. I have read through pages and pages of documentation and tutorials and now it's time to turn to the experts. All I need to do is get two seperate sites to run on 2 seperate site names on one IP. I can only seem to get one site to run at a time. I am going to need a full rundown of how to do this. I am sorry for being so friggen stupid but i am a designer not a tech person. you must get that allot though. I have already gone through the tutorials here and came out confused. Please help.

sorry man that doesn't help unfortunatly. I am very new to apache and am not used to a non gui format such as apache is. If theres any way to pont me to a better place to start learning or if you would be willing to take some time and walk me step by step through virtual hosting i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks i am begining to understand........ I think. bear with me now. I am on a windows xp pro platform so my document root should be
H:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\htdocs\
you say make sure the domain folder exists you mean just create a domain folder for the logs?

and lastly all this code gets plugged in at the very end of the httpd.cnf file? and after I finish the configuration do i restart?

Hi mate,

Just copy the above exactly as it is and paste it to the bottom of the httpd.conf file.

Now, create the folder (with the same name as you specify in the logs directive) in your logs folder.

Instead of using the long paths such as

H:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\htdocs\
create a new directory in the root of the drive and call it www

Now create a new directory inside that one called &quot;domain1&quot; or whatever your site is called.

Lets say that you have done the above and used the same names that I supplied for the folders.

The one place where the full path is needed, is the cgi-bin and that is included in the above code snippet.

Now restart Apache.

Do you have a file called index.html in both of the new server root?

If not then thats your problem..

Secondly, why don't you join this forum?

You will get more replies and also get notified by email everytime you mark a post and someone replies.. It is free and you have seen the help that you get...

Also, most people are more likely to help a member than a visitor...
