Virtual COM Ports directed to IP Printer

I have an application that needs to send information through a serial port (COM2). I would like to create a virtual port (eg. COM11 instead of COM2) then redirect the data through COM11 to a wireless network card which would then send the information to a printer which will be a wireless printer.

It is my understanding that there is software or hardware that can do these things.

Any starting point would be fantastic

You will probably have to write some software to take the data that arrives on the remote end of the virtual COM port software to redirect and possibly format that data for the printer.
