virt maps and aliases not working

We changed our company name and added a new domain name (is now primary). We still own the old name, and it is on our server. Now we seem to be having problems even with virt maps person@old_domain.com to person@new_domain.com getting through.

We cannot seem to convince some clients to update their address books with our new information, so we are keeping the old domain for another year or so. Also, we used to have a different naming convention, so those were aliased.

any ideas?

If both domains have the same MX all you need to do is make sure that both domains are listed in your relay-domains file.
My sendmail server relays mail for 8 different private domains (one for each company we own)and I have never had to bother with virt maps.
