Is there a way to find out what version of drivers a printer is using without sending a test print?

I am having problems updating a printer with the latest drivers. The driver dll files in the c:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 directory all show the current driver, however when i print a test print the Driver version is shown to be the previous one!

How can the printer have the latest driver but still show the previous driver version?

I therefore want to be able to view this information without sending to print a test page and then having to go across the building to view the output.

Any ideas?

Further, I have even checked the registry and the registry states that the driver version is the latest verion, so why is the test print saying otherwise?

Where does it get it's information from?
