Does anyone know how to view the contents of a backup tape, using DataCenter 4.5? Is it even possible?!

You would think that something as simple as this would be in the useless 400+ page five volume set of manuals that came with the software.

I'm running Windows 2000 Advance Server w/ an HP SureStore Dat24 external tape drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks dudes.

Did you try running bpimport? I know if it is a NB tape, not a problem. If it is a backup Exec tape, there is a section on how to read Backup Exec tapes in the manual

What are you trying to see and which tapes? Are the tapes Veritas tapes or from another program?

Are you trying to see specific backup jobs or all images? Is the tape Physical or virtual - i.e. Are there any valid images stored int he Database referrencing that tape or have all images expired and you want to read the tape back in?

If you want to read it back in - Do an import of the tape.

In NetBackup, select Reports, Media Lists and note the Last Written Date
and KBytes fields as well as any other fields that may be of interest.

If you actually want to get listing of the data on the tape, select the Images
on Media report.
