Instead of buying another Static IP - or just being limited to viewing through VPN - or the LAN

would like view a security Web cam or Cctv/ DVR attacted to a computer behind the firewall/router with a 192.168 Internal IP over the public Web

already have a 3.0/768 Dsl line that is not being used at night with a Static IP

so eventually - would like to type (EXTERNAL IP:pORT) and view over Public WEB

What Port Forwarding Technicalities and issues should one be aware of

I would guess that as long as your webcam\cctv publishes to a website you should just need to create a NAT entry on your router to whatever port you want (as long as your firewall allows the transport in and out). If you serve the internal webpages that host the pictures on something like 80 or 8080 or 81 and the webserver is patched to the hilt you should be ok, otherwise you could just choose a port of your own.

I am using a desktop app (VNC) that allows me to interact with my PC from overseas with no real difficulties, I just host it on a high level port (personally I am using either the 45000s or 80 if I want to use it through my works http access).

I think it really depends on what process you are going to use to view the content, are you relying on http access or bespoke applications??

Hope this helps?

Simon
