viewing a .cub file - what to use

when I create a .cub file using analysis services and save it on the server, how do I view it in Excel...when I go to file/open I cant even find the file...can anyone shed some light ??

you have to use Excel 2000 or higher.

Create a new pivottable with external data. choose import data an olap-data. go with the wizard and you can choose a local cube.
