I'm using Thunderbird for an eMail client. When I get a new project, I create a new subfolder using the project number and name as the folder label. When eMail comes in, it arrives in the Inbox folder and I move the new eMail into the project subfolder. When I reply to the eMail it is automatically saved to the Sent folder. I move this into the project subfolder.

When I try to view the eMails, both incoming and sent in the project folder, only the incoming eMail is displayed. If I use gMail in Brave browser, I can see both the incoming and replies. Is it possible to display the copy of the sent reply in the project folder, too? If not, where has the copy of any reply stored, so I can retrieve it?

I have been doing exactly this for a few years and it works fine for me.

But I have been using local folders, so I have just tried it by creating a new folder under a gmail account and copying emails from the inbox and the sent folder of a hotmail account and they are visible both in Thunderbird and on my Android phone.

I am using Thunderbird 78.5.0 (32 bit) on a Windows 8.1 pc.

Thanks for the reply... With eMails I've sent, they don't show up in the project folder, only ones I've received. Is there a 'switch' that allows them to display?

Dik

There is not a switch that I know of. When I set up the new folder today I certainly didn't do anything other than create it and move some e-mails into it. (I moved them by selecting them and using the "right click menu" rather than drag and drop.)

When I first discovered (several years ago) that I could see emails sent from another pc I was a bit surprised.

What email system are you using. If it isn't gmail or hotmail.co.uk it could be that the problem lies there.

Have you tried using local folders?

I use the right click...<move to> 'email address' and select the folder that it should go into... unfortunately it does not show in the folder I moved it to... it's there, because if I check with gMail the sent document is in the proper folder... just not visable in Thunderbird.

It's gMail, running out of Brave Browser... just recently hopped over to Thunderbird because it created a duplicate copy on my hard drive... I feel more secure if I have a hard copy too.

Have you tried using local folders?

I thought my project folders were local...

Thanks, Dik

Bad wording on my part. Sorry.

You are correct that all folders are local, although if you delete an email from one of them it will also be removed from the mail server.

In the left hand pane of Thunderbird I have the email addresses I use and below them the legend "Local Folders". This exists only on my hard drive whereas the others also exist on a mail server.

It is in Local Folders that I created a new folder.

I hope this makes a bit more sense.

Yes, thanks... Dik

Thanks everyone... I was tinkering with the settings, and I'm not sure what I did. The problem fixed itself... let's hope it stays that way.
