How do I change the way an attachment should be viewed ?

When a user double click on a MS Word attachment the GW client displays the document within the Groupwise client.
I want to set the default way to view the attachment so that
MS Word starts automatically and displays the document.

We're using GW 6.5.2

Hope someone can explain this to me.

I am not 100% sure, but I do not believe you can double click on the attachment in GW and have it opened with it's associated application. Double clicking on the attachment activates the GW viewers, and to my knowledge the viewers are not linked/associated with any OS applications. You can open the attachment with it's associated application by right clicking on the attachment and selecting "Open" from the drop down. I am basing this on my version of GW w/is 6.5.1. And this should be the same for all current versions of GW6. If there is a way I would like to know myself. Just for adding it to my ever growing notes for my end users. Have a good one!

Well, I found the solution myself.
Go to Tools, Options the click Environment.
Under the Default actions tab there are alternatives
for how you want to view attached files, eithter using
the built in viewer or an associated application.

You can also right-click the attachment and select "Open" which will then use the associated program.

Personally, I consider it dangerous for attachments to default to the open action rather than the view action. What if the attachment is an .exe, .scr, etc.? That's a great way to pick up virii.

Perhaps your users are better trained and more savvy than mine...

Nice to hear you got your problem solved. Thanks for posting back your findings. Goes to show that no matter how well you think you know something there is always a dark corner you have not yet expolred. And this was pretty simple also.
Later!
