I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for posting this question, if there is a better match out there, please let me know.
BACKGROUND: We are in the process of setting up a video conference solution for our business. On the customer side, we have a Polycom VSX8000 unit, and on the company side, we have Polycom's PVX software (with a Logitech web cam) installed on the rep's PC. The rep controls the entire video call, and (hopefully) the customer just comes in, talks to the rep, becomes approved for their loan, etc., and walks out happy.
PROBLEM/QUESTION: For some transactions, the customer will need to present documentation to the company representative. This could range from showing their driver's licenses (or other form of ID) for identity verification; to showing actual paper documents (divorce decree, automobile title, etc) to the rep. We need the rep to be able to view these documents easily, with minimum effort from the customer. In addition, the rep may occasionally need to retain a copy of the document's image for our records.
Here's what we've tried so far:
Fax Machine - to send copies of the documents to the rep (the rep would have fax software on their PC and not an actual receiving fax machine). Problem - cannot send ID's (driver's license) through the fax machine.
Document Camera - works for documents and ID's. The two that we've tried, however, cannot be controlled (zoom, etc) from the remote (company) side. The better ones have several arms for lamps, etc., so there is also the fear that a customer could accidentally move something out of place.
Scanner - was suggested but we haven't tried this yet. Can you scan a document to a remote location that will be 50+ miles away?
Can anyone think of some additional solutions to our issue, or make some suggestions to improve upon what we've attempted already? Any and all comments will be welcome!
