Hi,

I am setting up several teleworkers on 6.0(8) using the new video softphone and have hit a problem on some users PC's. out of the 15 installs onto XP pro SP3 machines I have 2 that won't run. The machines are similar in their setup and I can find no major differences, windows updates are up to date on all machines too.

The softphone splash screen comes up but then I get a windows error saying the ipsoftphoe.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close! when I check event viewer there is an entry in the application log:

Event ID 1000

Faulting application ipofficesoftphone.exe, version 30.5.6516.0, faulting module kernal32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5781, fault address 0x00012afb.

I have checked the microsoft technet site and event ID 1000 is a general error and there is no further info. my reseller has no knowledge or experience from other dealers of this issue and I wonder if anyone has any ideas.

Cheers.

Must be an issue with the installation of Windows on those two machines I guess, you say yourself it's fine on 13 others so that suggests the Avaya software is OK. When it comes to troubleshooting Windows issues it's a nightmare and usually ends in re-installing the operating system :)

Sounds like these PC's have a rootkit installed, rootkits is a new way of computerhacking.
Either check for unwanted rootkits ( Google ) and delete them ( if possible ) or reinstall the complete OS ( the advised way .

I'm glad I'm not the only one having trouble installing IPOffice VideoSoftphone.
At one customer it behaves exactly the same on several laptops with WindowsXP as OS.
It's currently under investigation by our BP and Avaya.

On my own laptop it just crashes with a general exeption error. But beeing an engineers laptop with a lot of other telecom related software installed that could be the cause.
But It's never a good thing when you install recently released software and on the first two occasions you get nothing but installation trouble.

Yes i've seen the software work on other machines, but I think it's a bit picky on hardware or other software installed.
I hope Avaya gets it sorted. When it installs OK I think it's way better than the previous Phonemanager IPSoftphone solution.

I have it working! (Thanks to Miles Gaynor for this).

It's a .net problem, one other symptom of this problem is windows update trying to install 2 or 3 .net updates over and over again despite them showing as installed in control panel.

To get the softphone to work I tried to uninstall/re-install .net 3.5 but this didn't work. what I did was use a neat .net removal tool from:

This tool removes all traces of .net from the PC.

You then need to download the .net 3.5 SP1 install file from the Microsoft download site and install it. once that's done, install the softphone and Robert's you're Mothers brother!

One working softphone.

Have a star,

The Softphone is now working on my own laptop.
Let's hope that this is also the solution for my customer.

I am having a similar issue, but a different error. IP Softphone installs fine, opens fine to the login screen. Enter login information and hit login, screen disappears, after about 10 seconds or so, the application shut down message occurs, the error is below,

AppName: ipofficesoftphone.exe AppVer: 30.5.6516.0 ModName: clr.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 01137858

Any help would be appreciated, I have had this issue now for 4 days on our XP machines. I have already tried the above fix
