I just got an MSI GeForceFX 5600 vivo card, and am trying to do some video recording. Unfortunately sometimes a white bar appears on the screen covering the middle third of the picture. The video preview windows are correct and never show a white bar, they show the full picture. I've tried the WinProducer software that came with the card, and also ATI's multimedia center 7.1 (which even though I don't have my tv wonder card in, the software still works). Both software programs exibit this same behavior at times. Sometimes the recording is fine, sometimes it's crap. I'm encoding either in MPEG1 or MPEG2, both schemes same unpredictable behavior.

Has anyone seen this problem before? Know how it's solved?

Now I do want to add, I've used this site for 2+ years, I don't need to see the usual "try updating & reinstalling drivers" comments, I can blind guess just as good as anyone else. I'm asking if anyone else has experienced this same problem or a similar problem and has been able to trouble-shoot it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

My system is:
MSI 5600-VTDR128
ASRock mobo SiS748 chipset
AMD Barton 2500+
Kingston HyperX memory 512meg
Seagate Barracude 80gig harddrive
Phillips Acoustic Edge sound card
WinXP Pro

I think I've got a handle on this after doing some searching, and this is a common problem with nVidia vivo cards (guess which brand my next upgrade will be? All those who guessed nVidia are wrong).

Seems to be an attempt at copyright protection? Maybe some time in the future I'll try to record in a copyrighted video, I cannot say I'll never, but at this moment I'm recording home movies to be put onto dvd for a co-worker who asked me to.

I got another nVidia WDM driver version (1.0.8) off the net, and it seems to work so far, though now the top couple rows of pixels on the screen are very bright greenish. I can easily crop that out during the next step of dvd authoring, but I'd rather not deal with it if I don't have to.

Can anyone suggest another good driver version to try & find? 1.2.7 was the version I previously had.
