All of a sudden I can not see videos I used to be able to see. I reloaded Quicktime and installed the new version. I can hear the sound clearly but no video appears. Could it be some sort of driver conflict? I spent hours trying to figure this out but with no luck. Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks

2 possibilities,

1. A Codec problem: in which case try downloading the appropriate codecs for the type of video you want to watch

2. a Display setting problem, where the display you are using is not the primary display, and as such videos will not show there. Solution go to display Properties, and set it to be a Primary display.

Hope this helps.

The type of videos I am trying to watch are training videos on a DVD which I have been able to watch previously and the videos on website. I don't know if they need a codec and if so what kind or where to get. I'm not sure what you mean by number 2.

For codecs go here:

As for my second possibility.

Displays can be either Primary or Secondary.

Normally Videos won't show on Secondary displays to prevent pirating.

Click on an Empty space on your desktop, select Properties, then go to Settings tab, and make sure the Use this device as my Primary monitor is checked.

I did the 2 steps you mentioned, downloading the codex and making my display the primary one. Still no luck. I'm thinking something is interfering with Quick time being able to be the primary video or some type of interference. Do you have any idea?

Are you displaying the video onto a TV or something?

Are the Videos *.MOV files or something else? Can you view them with something else, maybe Media Player?

For DVD's you might be better off using a DVD player software, like Cyberlink's PowerDVD.

In any case, i find it strange that with the codecs and the primary display thing the video still can't be seen.

I am using my computer monitor to watch the videos. All the movies are quick time movies. I was able to view all these videos a few months ago but now suddenly they won't display, that's why I think there is interference somewhere and I don't know where to look.

Well I really don't know. Maybe someone else here has another idea of what could be wrong.

Something else to try, When booting the machine press F8 and in the options on that menu will be a selection that says enable/disable vga. Select whichever is applicable and see if that helps

Something interesting happened tonight with the video. I was playing world of warcraft and then did alt-tab and decided to try the quick time videos again and lo and behold they worked, so I watched a few. The sound from world of warcraft was too loud so I exited from the game and my quick time videos stopped working. Signed onto WOW again and alt-tab and videos worked again and then they stopped when i exited WOW. Quick time seems to be connected to WOW somehow, can anyone think of any solutions. I am at my wits end. Thanks.

Any 1 have any ideas why I can only view quick time movies when I have a specific video game running? Quick time seems to be connected to WOW, any idea how I can get it back to normal?

It would seem WOW is running something that Quicktime needs to play the files.

Try comparing the running process with WOW running and without, see if there is any difference. Maybe we can narrow it down, to some component not getting loaded with Quicktime.
