I would like some of your input before I go dropping money on this laptop. Compaq CQ56 with Win7 laptop here is the problem, the screen lights, nice and bright but no video ( cannot see anything on screen). I can connect with an external monitor and everything is visible so I updated the video drivers but the same condition occurs, no video on laptop screen, I am thinking it is the led lcd screen that has failed. What do you all suspect is the problem, other than that the laptop is flawless only 2 months out of warranty.

THANKS

Could be a loose cable, either at the motherboard, or on the lcd itself, or it may be a bad lcd. Since the backlight is lighting, the video switch that Ben is pointing out,is not the issue.

Thank you both. Having it work on an external monitor pretty well eleminates many things, I have checked the cables both at the LCD display and the other end. The display did flicker once and I coukd see the desktop for only a moment & the external monitor did not flicker at the same time so I will invest $70 for a screen with 3 year warranty and keep my fingers crossed.

thanks again, I will post back when complete.

Couldn't it also be the video cable that connects the display to the motherboard? I've seen those fail as well. The external video port does not share the same connection, so the fact that the external monitor didn't flicker doesn't rule out the cable as the issue. Might be cheaper to replace that first before the entire screen.
