Turned the computer on this AM - everything normal through the WindowsME banner. When it switches to the desktop screen the display becomes very dim. If I change the display settings to the lowest 640x480 at 16 colors, brightness is fine. Once I bump the settings up the next setting to 800x600 at 256 colors (or any other value of resolution or color) the screen becomes very dim. I have connected the monitor to another system running XP, and all is okay there. I've switched vga cable - no help there either. Using a 2X AGP adapter. Suggestions

refresh rate

the only right answer to "why?" is: "why not?"

I replaced the monitor to be sure that it wasn't that. Same problem. It would appear to be the AGP card. I do have another video card (but not AGP). The system doesn't like the switch. I find nothing in the the mobo manual to tell how to use it without the AGP card, ie: a jumper to diable the AGP port. I get a beep code and all that when I try to leave out the AGP and use a regular video. One thread I looked at suggested to leave the AGP card in and attach to the secondary video card would work, but I don't seem to have things set up right for that either. For now, I'm stuck with 640x480 til I resolve this - or get a replacement AGP card. Or retire this system.

The previous reply didn't go into much detail. "Refresh rate!" How do I change it? Compaq P1210 monitor is auto sync I believe. No info on the AGP card other than it uses a SiS6326 chipset.
