Video Formats?

I'm developing a digital business card cd and am wondering what would be the best video format to use to play cross-platform.

Do AVI's play on the newest version of Quicktime?
If I used an AVI, it would play on Windows with no player needed. But if I played an AVI on a Mac it would load automatically into the Quicktime player (if Quicktime plays AVI's), would it not?

Also, what are the pros/cons to using mpeg format for movies?

Yes, Quicktime will play avi's just fine and if theres not a problem with space on the cd, then I would used an uncompressed format of avi for performance, and to make sure that a special codec isn't needed on the computers you are showing it on. However, Quicktime will mot play mpeg or windows media so stay clear of those if you can. hope this helps you out!
