A friend recently formatted his computer, but forgot to check the name of the video card before doing so. Now the PC is stuck in low resolution, 16-colour mode. When I opened the case, I could not see anything resembling a video card - the monitor plug connected straight to the motherboard, and the only other cards were the SCSI card, modem and network card.
How is it possible to find the name of the video card, so I can locate and install the appropriate drivers to get better resolution and colour depth? [Thanks in advance|Hope I helped you]

Look at the chipset...onboard graphics are usually a square chip. Look at the biggest chips in there and write down the codes on them. Then do a search on
Is there no information during boot up as to what it might be, or even the make? Some common onboard graphics are ATI, S3, SIS, Intel etc. Look for these names on the chipset.

oops...forgot to mention:

Get the model of the board. If you know that, you can do a search for its specs and that'll tell you what graphics it has.

Does the PC have a mobo utility cd or a restore cd?
If so, then the video drivers should be on that.
