I am using NT Workstation 4.0 SP3. I used Norton Ghost to make an image of a drive, and I restored it to a new drive.

The only difference between the two systems is the video card.

When I install the video driver on the new system, it doesn't work. After rebooting, I am prompted to change the settings for the display, but the color palette and the refresh rate lists are blank. The resolution is blank and can't be changed.

When I click OK or List all Modes, I receive an error:

"An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel"

Why won't it accept the new video drivers.

Have you tried booting into NT using the VGA mode boot option? This should disable or not initialize the previous video drivers and may allow you to install the new ones.

If the previous display adapter installation included some utilities then it may be listed under Add/Remove Programs...make sure you uninstall these.

Last and certainly least....re-ghost the orignal unit when booted to VGA mode and then restore it to the new unit.

dxd

Thanks for the quick response.

I tried booting to vga mode first, it didn't work. I also looked in add/remove programs, and there is nothing listed.

I ghosted the drive using a boot disk, so the OS wasn't loaded at all.

Is the new unit using an AGP video? If so, you may want to try upgrading the unit to SP4 or later.

As far as the original ghost...my meaning was to configure the original unit using NT native VGA drivers...no oem display drivers. Then ghost it.

dxd

It is PCI.

I misunderstood what you meant about the ghost image. I'll give it try.

Thanks
