hi,

I was given a win2k desktop pc recently formatted. On booting the machine, the Hardware wizard popsup and tried to install the Video controller (VGA compatible).

I figure that the display adapter is a onboard one but not sure of the make. Any suggestions as to where I can obtain a generic video controller for this device ?
thnx,

Remove the computer's cover, and check where the monitor's cable is connected.

If it's connected to a port on a card that's inserted into a MB slot, then the system has a video card.
Look on the card for a manuf. and model. If that info is available, then go to the video card manuf's site, and d/l the drivers for the video card and the O/S.

If the cable is connected to a port that's attached directly to the MB, then the system has an onboard video adapter.
Look on the MB for the manuf. and model. If you find them, then go to the MB manuf's site for the video drivers.

If the computer was built by a major supplier, like Dell, then got to their site for the video drivers.

Hi,

thnx for the response. I opened the box and found the Display adapter mounted (integrated) on the motherboard (Intel). There is no manf name indicated on the display adaptor. I could just make out one word "foxcomm"..not sure if this has anything to do with it.

The machine is a Fujistu-Siemens Desktop and I have their original driver CD but the video adapter simply doenst recognize any driver from the CD.

I forcefully installed a Intel 810 Graphics driver and it works ok but the resolution is very bad.

Any other suggestions??

thnx

Hi again,

The problem has been solved finally.. A freeware called UnknownDeviceIdentifier showed the adaptor info and I could locate the driver.
thnx,
