have a jetway 693as motherboard, no onboard video or sound, 4pci slots,1 agp slot, p3 900, motherboard is 370 socket, 512 ram. heres the problem, no problem setting bios loaded xp from scratch after first reboot to continue loading all i get is horizontal lines on monitor and they are in colour, the video card is xtasy 9200 se 128 mb pci with tv out if that matters.there appears to be a conflict in the video card, i am not sure what the problem is or maybe i have forgot to do something during the bios setup, i followed all instructions during setup, could the problem be that because i have an agp slot the motherboard will only recognize that type of card or is there another problem. please help

Make sure the video card is fully inserted, and its fan is running.

If those are ok, then look in BIOS for 'Primary Display'(or similar), and set it to PCI.

If that does not work or there is no such setting, then start in Safe mode, uninstall all video card software, remove all video cards from Device Manager, restart normally, let Windows recognize the card, and reinstall its drivers.

If no luck, then try the video card in another machine.
If it does not work there, then it may be defective.

i have reinstalled the original motherboard back in and reloaded xp in order for the computer to work, now this is my next question, can i disconnect the hard drives from the original motherboard and everything else and then install the new motherboard will all the existing programs on the hard drives remain or do i have to completely wipe out the hard drives because it is a new install of a motherboard when i previously did this i cleared all hds and reistaled xp, i hope you understand what i am trying to say, do i need to completely wipe out hds or can i just plug all into new motherboard and will it be recognizable with new board, i am pretty new at this kind of stuff

Windows XP is finicky about new MB installations.
It's recommended that the boot drive be reformatted.

thats my problem when i did reformat and reload it could not finish the install of xp the monitor screen had horizontal lines through it,after it rebootedto continue the process of loading xp, how can i start windows in safe mode when it cant finish loading

Did you make sure the video card is fully inserted?

Also, is it compatible with the new MB?

ski how do i find out if the video card is compatible with the motherboard, and thanks for your help i really do appreciate it

You're welcome.

Actually, I was thinking of an AGP video card when I mentioned MB compatability.
Sorry 'bout that.

The only way to make sure the video card is ok is to see if it works on another system.
If the same problem happens there, then it may be defective.

okay... here goes my motherboard wont recgonize that there is a video card on board. The card i have in there is olny 2 years old. When i go to start it my monitor says immediately check signal cable. The red error comes on and stays on so i basically cant get onto my computer to fix anything internally because the screen wont come up. What can i do to get my computer up and running smoothly again

Reseat the video card making sure it's fully seated.

If that's ok, then try your monitor on another system, or try a different monitor on yours.
If your monitor does not work on another system, or a different monitor works on your system, then your monitor is probably bad.

If your monitor works ok on another system, or another monitor does not work on your system, then the video card is probably bad.
