My computer will not allow me to use more than 16 colors. The only option I have is 2 or 16 and the screen resolution is stuck at 640 x 480. I have reinstalled the monitor and video drivers several times in regular mode and safe mode but I still have the same problem. I installed powerstrip but I was given the prompt that it can not run in 16 colors. I also went on line to driver.com to get new drivers thinking that maybe the ones in windows were corrupted but this didn't work either. I'm running windows 98 on a compaq presario with a K700 monitor. I would love to have this computer ready for my son by Christmas so any help is greatly appreciated.

Generally, monitors aren't particularly fussy about their drivers, any old plug 'n' play suffices. I don't know about your though. If you have the correct drivers, ensure that you completely delete any already listed in the PC before installing. Use Device Manager to totally remove the video card and drivers and then re-install after a reboot, or just let Windows decide for you.
Error! Keyboard not attached. Press F1 to continue

to me it sounds like your video drivers aren't installed..did you install them?

the monitor wouldn't limit your colors or display, that's your vid card..go to compac web site and get the drivers for your video card..it is your video that's doing this to you

hope this helps
