Hey guys,
I Just finished building my xp 2800 system, and i put in 2 sticks of 512 pc133 Ram. Now I want to buy a good video card, maybe around 64MB. The thing is do I need to have DDR ram if I buy a video card that is a DDR card? or will it run with a system that has sdram. And another thing my motherboard supports 8X agp, what would happen if I put in a video card thats lets say... 4X or 2X?

Thanks ahead of time everyone!

Your video card will be independant of your on board ram. As for the 8x support it will be backward compatable to at least 4x (and probably further). The only real question is are you a gamer, CAD/graphics or a video creator? If yes to any or all, then investigate what your programs need a buy the best fit for performance and price! Do you do just office, email and/or web only? If so,then the video card can be less of an issue as it won't be pushed by these programs/usage.

Cheers

2X cards are iffy. Some run at 3.3V while others at 1.5V. Your 8X AGP slot probably only supports 0.8V or 1.5V, which covers all 8X and 4X cards, and some 2X cards. Putting in a card that uses any other voltage could permanently damage the slot and possibly the rest of the board.

thank you everyone that helped. I am a non-stop gamer so i will be needing somethinmg with a little kick to it like a geforce 4 or the ati 128MB card

Well if that's the case, then both of those cards will be at least 4X. So you should have nothing to worry about.

Good Luck!
[thumbsup2]
