Hello everyone,

First post in this forum; thanks for your patience.

I have a new (still) digital camera which produces .MOV quicktime video clips (640x480, 30fps). These display very choppily on my PC.

Current spec: P3 500MHz, Win98SE, on-board graphics (no graphics card).

Would a separate graphics card improve the playback of these movies, and what sort would suffice, bearing in mind I have no interest in playing the latest whizzy 3D games!

As an aside, the PC plays DVDs perfectly in full-screen at 1024x768.

Many thanks, and seasonally-adjusted greetings to all.

Andy.

I'd look to the encoding of the video and the method it is created first before you look at the hardware. Still cameras don't produce _great_ footage imo. Have you tried porting the file to another PC and seeing how it looks there. This should help you narrow down where the problem is

Thanks norty303. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the encoding; the camera manual only states "Quicktime .mov format" and does not provide more information.

I know I won't get quality footage from a still camera, however it would be useful if the computer could at least keep up with the frame rate!

Will try it on another PC if I get the chance.

Cheers,
Andy.

I still think that 30fps @ 640x480 is a little much for a stills camera. It may well be that the reality is different from the marketing. Until you can check out the video on a faster machine, i'd reserve judgement. 30fps should play just fine on your computer, it's certainly not taxing. Are you playing in full screen or a window?
