AGP?
Guess it must be because the FX5500 is about the tops if PCI

Well there are lots of AGP cards faster than a plain 5700.

The problem is only a few are available new.
Let me start by listing a few available second hand:

ATI: 9700PRO/9800PRO/9800XT
X800Pro/X800XL/X800XT/X800XTPE/X850Pro/X850XT/X850XTPE

Nvidia: FX5900/FX5900XT/FX5900ultra/FX5950Ultra
6800series 6800GT/6800Ultra

NEW!
AGP version of the 6600GT (still some around)
7800GS
7900GS
All cards above faster than a 5700Ultra
Newer Nvidia cards have shader 3.0 (better effects) so for that reason I would go Nvidia

I should just add:
Some of these cards will require an upgrade on your power supply (450watt plus) thats quality not some cheap OEM
